Local Recreation
We fell in love with this place due to the year round recreation available! Trails, golf, pools, beaches, canoeing, fishing, skiing, and just about every type of recreation is available at the resort and in the immediate area. The Schuss Mountain Lodge has a daily list of activities available in the resort. A free shuttle is available to take you to any area of the resort. There are many programs for children, including licensed day care and supervised camps.
Restaurants and Groceries: there is a great variety of good restaurants within and outside the resort. Click here for some of our favorites.
Trails: The townhouse is steps away from miles and miles of beautiful trails for walking, biking, and cross country skiing. We have two adult size bikes and helmets available for guests, and there are bikes for rent at the resort.
Golf courses: The townhouse is just off the back deck of the second hole of Schuss Mountain Golf Course. There are also other golf courses in the resort, and many other golf courses in the area.
Outdoor pool: A beautiful outdoor pool is located steps away from the townhouse front door. This pool is always warm! It is open during summer only.
Indoor pool and outdoor winter pool: Schuss Village has an indoor pool as well as an outdoor pool, which is often open in the winter. These two pools are ¼ mile walk from townhouse, or ½ mile car or shuttle ride.
Lakes and rivers: The townhouse is very close to a gorgeous chain of lakes, including Lake Bellaire.
Boat launch: Lake Bellaire has a boat launch and small beach off Fisherman's Paradise, which is off M-88 towards Bellaire.

Swimming beach: The best beach for swimming is at Richardi Park in downtown Bellaire. This park also has a playground. Lake Bellaire also has a small beach, which is off Fisherman's Paradise (off M-88 towards Bellaire).
Winter sports at Shanty Creek: major snow hits this area each winter, which makes winter sports extra special!
Downhill skiing is ½ mile car or shuttle ride to Schuss Village. You can also cut through the woods and get right on the slopes. There are 49 runs at all levels, and many snowboarding hills as well.
Cross country skiing is steps away from townhouse, and trails go throughout the resort. You can take a shuttle to Summit Village and ski mostly downhill back to the townhouse.
Tubing, snowshoeing, horsedrawn sleighs, etc. are also available as winter sports.
Snowmobiling:M-88 has a snowmobile trail for many miles, and there are many other places in the area to snowmobile. Snowmobiles are not allowed on the resort trails.
Other Recreation:
There is a field steps away, behind the pool. We have soccer balls, frisbees, croquet and other games and toys.
There is a disk or frisbee golf course 1/4 mile walk, near the yellow ski run in Schuss Village.
Richardi Park is in downtown Bellaire. This park has a playground, tennis courts, and a swimming beach. The tennis courts in Summit Village (five miles away or a shuttle ride) have recently been resurfaced.
The Bellaire Movie Theatre is just five miles from the townhouse and runs two popular movies nightly. This theatre is now famous (or infamous), as nearby resident Michael Moore premiered “Sicko” there! Call the theatre at 231 533-8725.
Geocaching: guests can use GPS systems to track several treasures hidden in the resort.

The town of Bellaire boasts a unique indoor putt putt golf course inside the Papa K's pizza shop, which is off M-88.
Bellaire has a variety of unique shops. There are also shops in the villages, and malls in the nearby towns.
Morel mushrooms are steps away and abundant in the spring. BE CAREFUL if you don't know your mushrooms!
Spa and fitness center: this is located in Summit Village. There is a daily fee to use the facilities.
Fall Color Tours
The entire area is gorgeous, hilly; and full of colorful trees in the fall. Peak times are at the end of September and beginning of October.
TV, Phone, Internet, Games
The townhouse has a full range of cable television channels in the living room and two upstairs bedrooms. There is also a VHS player in the living room, with a few family movies.
Cell phone service is spotty, but we offer a phone for local calls (long distance calls can be charged to your home or calling card).
High speed cable internet service for your laptop is available by plugging into the cable box on top of the main tv. Wireless service is also available, and the code for the network is 2315871095. We can't guarantee the reliability of the internet, and the wireless has failed us a few times. High speed internet is also available in all the village lodges. We will provide contact information for the libraries with computers, as well as local establishments that offer high speed.
We have a few indoor games at the townhouse, including playing cards and Monopoly. There is a Gamecube system with at least one family game, and several jigsaw puzzles.
